1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
1 1/4 cups light brown sugar, packed
2/3 cup unsweetened natural cocoa powder
1 teaspoon instant espresso powder/granules, optional
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
pinch salt, optional and to taste
1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
3/4 cup buttermilk
2 large eggs
1/3 cup canola or vegetable oil
1 tablespoon brewed coffee, optional (leftover from the morning brew is fine)
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
